At Castlegar Kia, we have several models of the 2018 Kia Sportage available for showings and test drives, giving us the opportunity to study the details of this compact SUV that was redesigned in 2017. It was a big change. Our observations so far:
There is no room at Kia headquarters for boring, recycled designs and the fourth generation of the Kia Sportage proves it. With high-mounted headlights, a new tiger-nose grill and available "ice-cube" fog lights, the front-end of the Sportage immediately grabs your attention. This aspect of the new design has provoked the most conversation among automotive critics and customers. Designed in Germany, Kia created a compact utility vehicle is modern, unique, and rebellious. Kia retained some of the basic styling cues of the previous Sportage but punched up the look with sculpted alloy wheels, larger panoramic sunroof, sleek rear tailights, a longer wheelbase and a large selection of new colours. "Overall, the design is fresh and expensive-looking," according to Car and Driver.
We all love nice-looking vehicles but they also have to work and meet our daily needs. The Kia Sportage offers increased passenger and cargo space and a host of useful technology features such as standard rearview camera, new projection headlights fog lights for added visibility and standard heated front seats. Depending on the model, available features now include autonomous emergency braking, android auto for smarter and safer connectivity to your smart phone, blind-spot detection, and upgraded navigation. The Sportage also offers excellent ground clearance and its Dynamax Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system, which is ideal for driving in the Kootenays. Good looks only get you so far but the Kia Sportage is much more than a stylish CUV. For Kia, good design means improving your quality of life and the Kia Sportage achieves that mission.
Kia has turned its attention to the most minute details of vehicle interior layout and finishing. Kia has studied how people interact with vehicles and strove to simplify the interior design of the Sportage for easy, enjoyable use. There have been major upgrades in the quality of the materials used inside the Sportage with fewer plastics and more soft surfaces for improved comfort and visual appeal. From the seating to the entertainment system to the armrest, the Sportage interio is leaps and bounds ahead of the previous model.
The standard engine on the Kia Sportage is a 2.4L four-cylinder with an impressive 181 horsepower, providing good passing power and more than enough oomph to handle our mountain passes here in the Kootenays. But if you're the kind of driver that values high performance, Kia offers a 2.0T four-cylinder in the SX model that generates 237 horsepower. We're pretty sure that puts the Sportage at the top of the class in the CUV segment.
The Kia Sportage is another reminder of why we opened this dealership in the Kootenays. Kia is steadily increasing its brand awareness and popularity through vehicles like the Sportage. With every new model, Kia is out to show why it truly holds "The Power to Surprise." For more information on the Kia Sportage and the rest of our lineup, call or visit Castlegar Kia today.
